Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul—Why Couldn’t We Look Away?

I don’t like boxing. I’m not a fan of fighting. I don’t care much for Mike Tyson, and the Paul brothers… let’s just say, “a lot.” So why was I counting down the days to the Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul fight? Why did I find myself glued to every update on something I swore wasn’t my thing?

Apparently, I wasn’t alone. The fight garnered a staggering 108 million live viewers globally, peaking at 65 million concurrent streams (38 million in the US). These two men reportedly made $20 million and $40 million just for stepping into the ring. How? Why?

Here’s what I’ve realized about my own fascination with the dark and unpredictable: I’m drawn to chaos. To the raw, the risky, the messy. Jake Paul didn’t just decide to box—he declared it with unrelenting confidence, then took on Mike freaking Tyson. That audacity? It’s magnetic.

Paul lives in that electric energy—unapologetically messy, undeniably bold. He’s leaning all the way into who he is, and millions of us can’t look away. Maybe we’re all a little captivated by the train wreck, the rise and fall, the audacity to risk it all.

But here’s the real question: What if we stopped watching and started living like that? What if we chased our own crazy dreams? What if we leaned in, embraced the mess, and lived with that same electric energy?

Spoiler: I didn’t even watch the fight—just the highlights. But maybe I didn’t need to. Maybe the real highlight was the reminder to step into the ring of life, mess and all.

Your turn: Are you watching from the sidelines, or are you ready to throw some punches? Let’s talk.
